However, your gum health also plays an important role. Unfortunately, it is estimated that 50% of adults have gum disease, also known as periodontal disease. Although anyone can develop the infection, those with diabetes have a heightened risk. With nearly 29 million adults in the U.S. living with diabetes, it is essential that you seek treatment right away at the first sign of the infection because the two conditions go hand-in-hand.
